Chapter 1 - A fleeting thought

In the midst of the pandemic's chaos, I was sat on the sofa with my baby drifting off beside me. A cup of coffee in hand, I longed for a moment to myself, yet, my baby desired the constant presence of my hand. It was then that an idea began to take shape - the concept of a baby soother that imitated the comforting feel of a resting hand.

Chapter 2: De Ja Vous

Time passed and I found myself in a similar scenario with our second child, the idea that had been in the back of my mind resurfaced with renewed vigour. I searched for the answer but there was nothing out there.

Chapter 3: A hatchling idea

Could I create the solution? The challenge was to seamlessly incorporate the sensation of a resting hand into a baby soother. Countless hours were dedicated to brainstorming, researching, and experimenting, driven by the belief that this innovation could ease the lives of parents and babies. I needed an endearing animal that would lay flat and could incorporate the shape of a hand, a happy little octopus.

Chapter 4: Adding in a twist

As the idea evolved another breakthrough emerged. I read about The Danish Octo Project, where an amazing team of volunteers crochet cotton octopi for premature babies, the tentacles resemble the umbilical cord to remind the babies of their time in the womb. Researchers found that the babies with the octopi had more regular heart rates and higher SATS (levels of oxygen in their blood). This is where we added the front twisted tentacles, carefully designed to replicate the familiar touch of the umbilical cord. This addition set our product apart, infusing it with a unique connection to the womb, a space where babies feel safe and nurtured.
